Be Mine Valentine

These cupcakes were a natural follow-up to my chocolate-covered buttercream cherries that I made for the holidays. I have always loved the combination of chocolate and raspberries and chocolate and strawberries, but my favorite has always been chocolate and cherries. Also, I am apparently I am going through a cherry phase... more cherry-filled recipes are coming up soon!

Happy Birthday Nichole!

My friend, Corrine's granddaughter, Nichole, is turning 5 years old today! I made these mini vanilla cupcakes with pink buttercream for her birthday snack at preschool today.  Nichole, Corrine and I had a blast taking pictures and just being goofy.

Magnolia Bakery’s Vanilla Cupcakes

Last year my friend Dana got me best present, The Complete Magnolia Bakery Cookbook for my birthday last year. I poured through it and marked several pages of recipes I wanted to make. So when I finally got around to baking in my new apartment, these cupcakes were on the top of my list. Magnolia cupcakes didn't disappoint... in fact they didn't stay around long enough. The cupcakes were very rich and so flavorful!

Calamity Kate gets a little Crazy

Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie Pie

I have been a little pie-crazy lately. Well, pie crazy doesn't even give you an idea on how pie crazy I have become. I have many more pies I haven't shared with you. I used to be afraid to make pies and pie crust was too difficult. So I baked other treats and for many years the only pies I made were chicken pot pies. But since I have been over running CKK with pies (more to come) I decided to take a short pie break and we will return to our normally scheduled program of cupcakes.  And now back to the show...

Sweet and Spicy Cupcakes

Welcome friends… I am back and tan (in a slightly raccoon-y pattern)  and ready to bake,

I have so much to tell you from my vacation and SITS Bloggy Boot Camp. But unfortunately that isn't going to happen today… I still have 721 pictures to sort through along with at least 100 business cards and 15 pages of notes from Bloggy Boot Camp.  But instead of all that I thought I would tempt you with a bit of Cinnamon and  Honey Cupcakes with divine buttercream. (Honestly the buttercream is so amazing and truly luscious that I would most likely skip the cake in favor of a spoon.) But check out what my friend Katrina has deliciously decided to do with buttercream. It is breathtaking and this would be a perfect buttercream to make with it. Check it out here. Oh you are in for such a treat!!!

Cinco de Mayo and the Drunk Cupcake

I'm back from my move and I'm so excited to be blogging again!! I can not thank my awesome guest bloggers enough for keeping Calamity Kate's going while I was moving. They were fabulous and I loved how each post was unique and how every ones writing styles were so beautiful. Thanks again guest bloggers!

My apartment is not yet done. I still need to finish up some painting and hang a few pictures but I love this place and already feel at home. I will be sharing pictures with you soon. Sookie is loving the view from the patio and bedroom windows. The birds fly around and land on the patio which freaks her out. I don't think Sookie knows what to make of them yet but they keep her entertained! I am thrilled to have such a great view and tons of sunlight. I just planted my strawberries, mint, basil, cherry tomatoes and yellow-pear tomatoes yesterday, the rest will have to wait to be planted.

Back off  kids, these are adult only cupcakes

Summer Fun and a Giveaway

Summer is ending, but I am not ready for fall to come. This summer has been a crazy mix of work and wishing for August to arrive so I could go on vacation. For many years my parents have been vacationing on the island of Nantucket for the month of August. My brother and I got to visit them this year for a few days each. We stay in this little Wild Rose cottage and this year we had the added pleasure of having my cousins and their children living in the cottage behind ours.  Every morning we ate outside together, the only table large enough for our family. We packed lunches and spent the day hanging out on the beach. There are some awesome beaches in Nantucket, but my favorite was Dionis beach were we found some amazing shells in the warm water.
